Martin Misfeld, born 1965 in Hamburg, Germany. From 1986 – 1993 Medical School, University of Hamburg. Residency at the Department of Cardiac- and Thoracic Vascular Surgery, University of Luebeck, Germany (Prof. Hans-H. Sievers). MD degree in 1996. Registrar and Research Fellow at Harefield Hospital, England, under the supervision of Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub from 1998 – 1999. PhD degree, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London in 2004. German Habilitation in 2005. Associate Professor, University of Sydney in 2008. Since 2009 Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, Leipzig Heart Centre (Prof. Friedrich W. Mohr (emeritus), since 2018 Prof. Michael A. Borger). Full professor of cardiac surgery since 2010. Currently, Co-Director Leipzig Heart Center, Visiting Medical Officer and Co-Director of Research, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney as well as Honorary Professor, Medical University of Sydney, Australia.
Prof. Martin Misfeld has published more than 280 peer-reviewed papers. He is a reviewer of the leading cardiothoracic surgical journals and member of national and international societies, including EACTS, AATS, ISMICS, ESC, DGTHG and DGK. His surgical foci are: Minimally invasive cardiac surgery, valve reconstruction and preserving techniques, novel aortic valve substitutes, aortic surgery, Maze procedures, “anaortic” complete arterial OPCAB techniques and complex cases.
